Mini Valentine's - Love Me Do Blog Hop

Welcome to the “Love Me Do” Valentine’s Blog Hop!  This week, January 16th-20th, we have a group of 5 talented designers sharing projects with you on their blogs to get you prepared for the upcoming season of love!  Whether you use these designs to create something for your loved ones or spring-board off the inspirations given, we would love to see your work as well, so leave a comment on the blogs as you go through.

On January 24th, we will be giving away a collection of goodies from the group to one lucky participant.  The giveaway will be hosted through filling out a Google Docs form, on Live.Teach.Create on January 20th, asking various questions about the posts throughout the week.  All those who enter with the correct answers will have a chance to win!

And now on to my project for today!

It never failed in grade school that sometime in the week leading up to Valentine's Day, every class would make a mailbox of sorts out of a paper bag or shoe box. Then on Valentine's Day each student would set their mailbox up on their desk and wait for everyone to pass out Valentines.

I can almost remember it like it was yesterday.

Each student went from desk to desk - mostly because the teacher made a rule that if you brought one Valentine you needed to bring them for all classmates - depositing their Spiderman or Troll - yes, I was a kid of the 90s - Valentine's. After everyone was done, sugary treats were consumed and Valentine cards were eagerly opened.

Ahhh the memories.

It's too bad things have changed as we've gotten older - at least according to the calender. Giving and receiving those cute little cards used to be something to look forward to. It spiced up the short, yet boring, month of February.

This Valentine's Day, why let little kids have all the fun? It's easy peasy to make your own! You can even make them the same size as the ones we all remember.

These Valentine's were very easy to make and not very time consuming at all. They would be even less time consuming if you made them all with the same - or similar - designs.

To start, I cut rectangles 2.5x4". This was extremely easy since I had some leftover card stock from my wedding invitations that was 4x5. I just cut it in half! But anyhow, it's pretty easy to just cut it yourself.

Then, I had fun decorating and designing til my heart's content.

The hardest part was making sure everything was small enough to fit on the card and yet big enough to still look like what it's supposed to.

One of the best parts is that these mini Valentine's allowed me to use up quite a bit of my scrap paper (and boy do I have a lot). I hate for things, especially paper, to go to waste so this was perfect.

I'll admit that I think I heard this sentiment on The Simpsons one year, but I think theirs was slightly different. Ever since I've heard it, I wanted to make a similar Valentine. I decided this was the year.

They could also be very simply decorated - nothing too fancy. This one is just some pink patterned paper with the word "Love" in a scripty font. It still looks nice and doesn't need too much going on.

This is one of my favorites. I love the glittery patterned paper and the frog is adorable. I also love how it could be given to someone of any age.

This is another simple, yet enough one. It's just some patterned paper with "u rock" stamped onto a piece of white scalloped paper. It's got a little bit of glitter but isn't over the top.

I love this monster. I love that this card could be made out of paper scraps since there aren't too many pieces and the combination of colors and patterns is only limited by your imagination (and your paper stash).

As it says, this card is "sweet." A little bit of ribbon jazzed up an otherwise kind of blah card, gives it a little extra zing. Plus, I also find it hard not to be happy about a cupcake.

This monkey is so cute!  And apparently he's "bananas for you!" The green patterned paper is great at making it look like a jungle without being too busy or overwhelming.

This card reminds me of the 80s. I think it's the bright pink on a black background. It needs to be given to someone with a side pony and purple eyeshadow. It's really just that kind of card.

This is another fave. It's simple with a little bit of glitter. PLUS, it used up some scraps and I really would have hated to use that little bit of glittered polka dot paper.

Thanks for joining me today for Day 2 of the “Love Me Do” Valentine’s Blog Hop!  Next person in the hop is Claudia.  Check back again with me tomorrow as well for another new idea.
