Wedding cake, in my opinion, is usually one of the best cakes to eat. Either that or it's the worst and it's a dry, icky mess. For some reason I can have a vanilla cake every single day of the week, but it just tastes better at a wedding.
Thankfully, for our wedding, we had an amazing baker who did her best to accommodate our somewhat strange requests.
For our cake, we chose a 3 tiered, 3 flavored cake. I knew going into things that I didn't want fondant at all. It's gross and a lot of people don't eat it, so why waste time on something people aren't going to enjoy. It was butter cream all the way for us!
For our flavors, we chose cherry chip (DH's favorite!), vanilla and chocolate. With having 2 pretty standard and traditional flavors, i wanted to mix it up somehow to make our cake memorable, in a good way.
After literally hours and hours of looking at cakes I finally came across this picture online somewhere and thought it looked amazing.
We talked with the baker and chose this design from her book.
We were insanely happy with the way our cake turned out. I really couldn't have described what we wanted any better than it turned out.
The middle tier was the most fantastic of all. The rainbow tier!
Of course the cake we chose was supposed to feed 250+ And we had about 140 people show up to the reception. We were eating cake for days!
Also, instead of saving the top tier, because DH and I have different cake preferences, we asked that she make us 2 cupcakes. One is cherry chip and the other is the rainbow vanilla. I can't wait for our first anniversary to try them out.
